Piltene is designed for the spot right next to your fireplace, stove or sauna heater, where firewood should be close at hand and still look tidy. The basket is bent from one piece of steel: a flat base and two upright side panels joined by smooth, generous bends, with no seams or joints in the walls. Its low, wide shape holds a good evening’s supply of logs without dominating the room. The front and back are open, so logs can be stacked and taken from either side. Split logs lie across the rack between the side panels with their cut ends facing out, so the pile looks orderly and the end grain becomes part of the look.
We use 3 mm steel sheet, which keeps the rack rigid and stable even when fully loaded. Every rack is finished with a fine-texture matt powder coating: a durable, slightly grainy surface that feels pleasant to the touch, hides fingerprints and small marks, and stays matt without glare. Choose from six colours: Black (RAL 9005), White (RAL 9010), Dark grey (RAL 7016), Light grey (RAL 7035), Gold (RAL 1036) and antique Bronze. The two round steel legs are coated in the same colour and raise the base 2 cm off the floor. This lets air reach the bottom logs, keeps the base away from damp floors and protects wood and tile surfaces. Rounded corners and bends make Piltene safe to handle and easy to clean: simply wipe it with a damp cloth. It works well indoors and on a covered terrace or porch.
Piltene is made by FERLIGS, a metalworking company in Riga, Latvia, that has been making stairs, railings and steel home products since 2017. It belongs to our collection of firewood racks named after places in Kurzeme, western Latvia, alongside Edole and Ugale; Piltene is a small historic town near Ventspils. Overall dimensions are 60 cm wide, 34 cm deep and 27 cm high. The basket itself is 60 × 30 × 25 cm and fits logs about 25–35 cm long. The logs in the main photo only show how the rack looks when filled. Firewood not included.
